How Window Tinting Plays a Very Important Role

How Window Tinting Plays a Very Important Role

Waking up in a brightly lit room is a great way to start the day. Having too much sun, though, can be damaging for the homeowner or the items kept in the house, especially when there are big windows in the house.Don’t worry if you have big windows because all it takes to solve this problem is having the perfect tint job.

People resort to window tinting to prevent too much of the sun’s heat and rays from entering the windows. Window films help prevent entry from the UV rays, which may be harmful to the skin. With the proper tint job, solar radiation and heat will simply bounce back.

UV rays and solar heat cause fading among the furnishings of a house, which is why it is important to make sure to have some form of protection. In the long run, the right window tint applied by a reliable window tinting company can save a homeowner from spending more money.

Health buffs also make sure to have the right window tinting to avoid getting skin cancer.Untreated glass cannot protect your skin from these harmful ultraviolet rays.Window tinting makes glass windows more durable.

How Much Does Car Tint Cost?

How Much Does Car Tint Cost?

Oddly, this is a even harder subject than explaining how window film works. The price for a car tint can vary dramatically from the cheapest fly-by-night shop from $100 to the luxury tint shop’s $400 or more. For each of these situations, the price can be considered REASONABLE. What a REASONABLE price is depends on many factors:

Your Car Type

Quite simply, a small percentage of cars are harder to tint than others. When getting a price quote, Garcia Pro Window Tinting always asks you for the make and model of your car. This isn’t to see how much money you have and charge you up the wazoo.

We know which cars take more time to tint properly. Some cars with steep and curved rear windows like the Volkswagon Beetle or Corvette  we charge a premium to tint. Additionally, each additional square foot of window on your vehicle requires more window film to tint. This makes tinting a SUV or station wagons cost more than sedans.

Type of Tinting Film

Just like comparing a Hyundai to a Porsche, there are wide performance and cost differences in tinting film. The cheapest tinting film can be many times less in price than more expensive film, but you get what you pay for.

Cheap film may look good at the beginning, but they can fail to block the summer heat, fade, turn purple, or bubble soon after installation. Higher quality window film such as fully metalized sputtered or deposition window films like Express, Aegis films offer both advanced performance and a lifetime warranty. These films are worth the higher price.

Performance Warranty

You are highly encouraged to ask about the Performance Warranty before you pay for tinting services from anybody. Typically these Warranty’s can last from as little as 1 year to a Lifetime.

Not all Warranties are created equal! Most warranties only cover problems such as cracking, glazing, bubbling, and peeling. Some films carry a “Color-Safe Warranty” that gives you peace of mind that if the color of your tint ever changes, it will be replaced.

Be Careful! Irresponsible tint shops can also offer “Lifetime Warranties”; however, if they go out of business next year, who is there to replace your bubbling tint? You should always factor in this “hidden” cost when buying low priced car tint.

Garcia Pro Window Tinting Reputation

We take great pride in our work. We have high standards in who we hire, the film we use, and overall customer service and experience.

Garcia Pro Window Tinting delivers quality film and quality service at reasonable prices.

The Skin Cancer Foundation – UV Film | UV Information

UV Film

Film Ultraviolet rays UVR are sneaky. Not only can they cause skin cancer and visible signs of aging, they’re also very good at finding you. They can bounce off water, off sand, and they can penetrate glass. Which means that even if you’re inside your car or house, if you’re sitting next to a window with sunlight streaming in, you’re at risk for UV damage.Fortunately, the “window film” revolution is gaining momentum. It began with automobiles in the 1990′s. Research showed that drivers with left-hand drive developed more skin damage on the left side of their bodies, while those with right-hand drive developed more damage on the right. The reason? UVR streaming through the driver-side windows. “Long-time drivers are found to have rougher, more pigmented skin with greater solar damage on their driver’s side,” noted Albert Kligman, MD, PhD, emeritus professor of dermatology, University of Pennsylvania Medical School, Philadelphia. All of a car’s windows filter out the sun’s short-wave, UVB rays —all glass will filter UVB, in fact — but only the windshield in cars comes partially treated against the sun’s UVA rays. However, for several years in all 50 states, transparent UVA-filtering film has been available for vehicles’ side and back window glass. It screens out almost 100 percent of UVB and UVA, without reducing visibility. And now, UVA-protective film has moved indoors big-time. Residential and commercial films come in flat sheets, in varied tints, cutting down glare by more than half while allowing 30-80 percent of visible light to get through, depending on the customer’s wants. Like automobile film, they block out up to 99.9 percent of UVR. This helps prevent not only sunburn, but also the brief daily UV exposures that cumulatively accelerate skin aging and multiply the risk of skin cancer. In addition, the film can be lifesavers for people with diseases involving dangerous photosensitivity, such as xeroderma pigmentosum and lupus.Along with clear health benefits, window film offers other advantages: In hot weather, it cuts down heat within the home, which can reduce air conditioning expenses. In cold weather, it reflects interior heat back into the house, reducing heating costs. It helps keep sunshine from fading car upholstery and home furnishings. Some new types of “safety” film help hold residential and commercial glass in place if shattered. Several times thicker than the standard sun-protective film, it can greatly reduce the chances of break-ins, property damage, and even personal injury that can result from broken glass.

PGC International Legislative Retreat Wraps Up in Washington, D.C. | Window Film Magazine

PGC International Legislative Retreat Wraps Up in Washington, D.C.

May 12th, 2011 | By Editor | Category: Featured Content

The Protective Glazing Council (PGC) International hosted its PGC Legislative Retreat this week at the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) headquarters in Washington, D.C. The event features a day of presentations and discussions about the current environment for protective glazing as well as a day to visit decision makers on Capitol Hill to discuss the use of protective glazing technologies and products in government owned and run facilities.

“The PGC International Government Affairs Committee is one of the most exciting aspects of the organization. With so many rapid changes and evolution in the construction industry, it is vitally important for the organization to be engaged at the Federal level to remind those making key decisions that protective glazing technologies are a key element in their decisions,” says Brian Pitman, director of marketing and communications for the PGC International. “There is a reason these technologies exist, and it is our duty to do all we can to encourage everyone to use them vigilantly.”

“This is a very important opportunity to get reacquainted on issues that have taken a back seat,” said Darrell Smith, chair of PGC International’s government affairs committee. “I hope this will get people excited about things that they maybe haven’t been excited about in the past.”

According to Pitman, the meeting was the first in Washington, D.C., and involved key officials from the Department of Homeland Security, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS).

“Each discussion created opportunity and value for PGC International and the industry as a whole,” he says.

Included in the program was a presentation by Richard Paradis of NIBS who discussed the NIBS Security Information & Technologies Exchange (SITE) database. Paradis previewed the product database for those in attendance, explaining that it allows visitors to the website to view product listings, which also include the standards that each product meets.

According to Paradis, the database, which is currently still in the building phase, “helps users find the most appropriate technology that best fits the potential security threats of a specific facility.” He noted that SITE is a searchable, online database of products that meet the Department of Homeland Security Interagency Security Committee, Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs security criteria and standards.

“The Department of Homeland Security really wants to have a place to go find these high-end products,” says Paradis.

A target date for the website to go live has not yet been set and NIBS also plans to enter more products into the database before it does so.

Attendees also spent a day visiting decision makers on Capitol Hill to discuss the use of protective glazing technologies and products in government owned and run facilities.

How to Select the Proper Residential Or Commercial Window Tint | TopDocInformationBlog.info

In selecting the proper window film for your home or office, you will first want to ask yourself the question, “Why do I want to window tint?” There will be several common answers and ultimately they will all lead to the selection of the highest grade available. The most common answers to why I want to window tint followed by a window tint benefit:· I want to cut down on the solar heat coming through the windows. Window tint reduces up to 80% of the sun’s heat that comes through the windows by reflecting it away from your home.· I want to reduce fading of my furnishings. Window tint blocks out up to 99% of the ultraviolet rays that cause fading of drapes, furniture, artwork and even flooring.· I want to reduce the annoying glare. Window tint helps reduce annoying glare by up to 93%.· I want privacy and security. Window tint helps hold the glass in the frame when struck to prevent flying glass and dangerous shards, protecting against one of the greatest dangers to your family, which is the threat of broken glass.· I want to reduce heat loss in winter months. Window tint reduces heat loss through your windows by reflecting it back into your room.· I want to save money, reduce my utility bill, and help the environment by going green and not wasting energy.Window tint was originally developed as a way to reduce energy waste year around by controlling the solar heat in the summer and retaining the heat in the winter, thus using less and paying less, saving you money. When selecting the proper window film, call your local window tint company and ask for a free estimate. You let them know you want a film that will do all of the above. Avoid the low cost films, as they will not be worth it over time. Just request from them up front that you want the highest heat rejecting but virtually clear and un-noticeable window film available. These films come with a lifetime warranty, and many carry seal and glass breakage warranties. So, ask your local professional.

Window Film May Reduce Cooling Costs – Homes News Story – WSB Atlanta

Window Film May Reduce Cooling Costs

During the summer, heat invades homes.

Heat lost through windows is responsible for an average of 15 percent to 20 percent of an average home’s summer cooling bills. In sunbelt states, the average can be much higher. As energy rates remain high or continue to climb, everyone needs an affordable and immediate way to beat the heat.

Start saving energy with windows, especially those facing south and west. For people who live in Florida, Texas, Arizona, Nevada and California, sun coming in the windows means a lot of cash going out to utility companies.

According to Jack Haenichen, senior technical adviser for the Arizona commerce department’s energy office, “Forty percent of a house’s heat is a result of its window space, and approximately 50 percent of a utility bill can be attributed to them.”

Window films are one options for homeowners.

“Window film is your best solution to block heat and fading, especially if you are on a limited budget,” said James Dulley, author of “The Sensible Home.”

In his book, Dulley recommends metallized polyester films that reflect summer heat and help retain radiant heating in winter, in the same way high-tech insulated windows do, but at a fraction of the cost.

The most energy-efficient insulating films reflect up to 70 percent of the sun’s energy. They significantly reduce heat gain, improve comfort and reduce air conditioning bills. In an average 2,000 square feet home, a heat-control window film applied to all the windows can reduce summer utility bills up to 25 percent. In western states like California, Arizona and Nevada, savings can be more.

The difference is immediate, the payback can be less than a year, and these films can work up to 10 years. After that, replacement is quick and easy. Actual benefits depend upon window age, type, exposure and climate.

Sun control window films benefit homeowners in five ways. According to John Pinkerton of GILA Window Films, “These films reduce utility bills and improve comfort.

“Only sun control window films apply directly onto the glass to reflect heat and reduce harsh glare and damaging UV A+B rays without blocking the view outside,” Pinkerton said. “Maximum efficiency and energy savings start with selecting the right film and applying it to the entire window, especially those facing south and west.”

Some films are virtually invisible, and some are darker to block glare. Others are mirrored or frosted for greater privacy and personal protection.

How Does Window Film Work?

How Does Window Film Work?

Diagram of How Window Film interacts with Visible Light Tint is created when tinting film is bonded onto a piece of window glass. Tinting film is usually made out of clear polyester film with a very thin and even layer of tinting agents such as dyes and/or metals deposited onto the film.A common misconception is that window tint is dark, and night-time driving is impossible when a car is tinted. The truth is that there are films of ANY darkness that suits your preferences. Also, unlike sunglasses that do impair your ability to drive at night, tinting film is designed to reduce glare and not impede night-time driving. State window tint laws also protect consumers against illegal tint that may put them in harm’s way during night-time driving.Another misconception is that window tint is bonded onto the outer surface of auto glass. Window tint is applied on the inner surface which also protects the film itself from flying debris outside the car.Once tinting film is applied to a window, the characteristics of how visible light comes into the car changes. Normal auto glass without tint reflects around 5% of visible light known as VLR%, absorbs another 5% known as VLA%, and transmits 90% of visible light known as VLT% into the car.Depending on the type and quality of tinting film applied to a window, these percentages change dramatically. Some tint are more reflective, and others absorb more light. The number you will most commonly see is the VLT% Visible Light Transmittance. Almost all the official names of films include the VLT% within it . VLT% tells you how much visible light is allowed to shine into the car, and also indirectly how dark the tint looks.Tinting film doesn’t just block visible light. It also blocks harmful cancer-causing ultra-violet UV-A and UV-B rays as well as infra-red IR rays that cause heat to build up in your car; however, how effective a film is in blocking these rays depends on the type of film, the manufacturer, and the quality of installation. We at Garcia Professional Window Tinting we understand that tinting is a complicated subject, and we aim to help you find the right tint for your car based on your needs.
